Touch is creating awareness

Our first language is the language of touch and it is essential for human survival.

Skin-to-skin contact immediately after birth increases the the level of the bonding hormone oxytocin, stabilizes the new-born’s respiration and oxygenation, increases glucose levels, warms the infant, reduces stress hormones, regulates blood pressure, decreases crying and increases the quiet alert state.

Touch is the primary language of compassion, truly fundamental for human communication, bonding and very important for health.

It builds up cooperative relationships. Touch signals safety and trust, it soothes. Basic warm touch calms cardiovascular stress. Touch can trigger release of oxytocin, aka “the love hormone.*

Studies show that touching patients with Alzheimer’s disease can have huge effects on getting them to relax, make emotional connections with others, and reduce their symptoms of depression.

Also, no touch or lack of touch in childhood, may lead to higher risk of behavioural, emotional and social problems like aggression and violence, problems with memory and learning due to the higher level of the stress hormone cortisol, lower levels of growth hormone and a weak immune system.

Scientific research shows in general: touch is important for physical and mental health!

I’m touched

Kind words, nice music, love letters, any act of kindness can ”touch us“ without physical touch. All rude and harsh words and experiences can also negatively “touch us”. Sometimes those sensations have a stronger effect on our physiology than physical touch itself. That sort of information and the emotions it arouses can be stored in our marmas and limbic system for the whole life.

Keep in touch

Very often we use phrase (let’s) Keep in touch in order to stay in contact with someone and to remain in contact (without physical contact). Keep in touch is an idiom. “In touch” means “in or into communication”. In business, keep in touch usually means “keep posting information to each other”. For close friends, I usually take it as “let’s stay close” (as in close friends), by making a call or writing (or tweet, post, etc.) to each other from time to time.

Hello World!
First experience of touch …

On a spiritual level it is very important that immediately after birth the child is placed on the mother’s chest (heart marma). The soul then experiences and feels the new body, new life and love. The soul experiences its new home and new start, and from that moment the body and the 107 marmas on it are the main communicators, receptors and sources of our vital energy which are touched.

To touch is to give life

Michelangelo

Our soul is limitless and eternal and once it decides to come and live in a physical form, it comes in different types of body.

Our body is a temple of our soul, it is a physical structure and it has it limits, walls and borders. So when baby is born, after spending months in an isolated watery womb, the baby, with its mother’s touch, can feel and experience his or her body and can feel alive.
